To say it all started with a dream wouldn’t be quite right, because truth is, I never imagined we’d grow the farm into what it is today. With a whole lot of hard work and more blessings than I can count, we’ve been able to service our customer for decades.

DEEP ROOTS AND STRONG TRADITIONS
1910 - 1930
Tom's Hay Farm didn’t sprout out of nowhere — it’s deeply rooted in a family tradition of ranchers, farmers, and butchers. Tom’s grandpa was a rancher, and his granduncle a butcher. The values and hard work of these men laid the foundation for what would later be build.
LAYING THE FOUNDATION
1940- 1960
In the 1940s, Tom’s dad bought the very land where the farm stands. From a young age, Tom and his siblings worked alongside their father, learning the ropes and forming the principles that continue to guide our farm. Settling on this fertile land was a blessing, and those early years of hard work on the ranch instilled in Tom the values of dedication, honesty, and the importance of family.
HEAD DOWN & WORKING HARD
1970 - 1980
With a dream of working his own land, Tom spent these decades rolling up his sleeves and putting in the hard work. He partnered with other farmers, learning the trade and saving up to buy the equipment he needed to farm his own. Tom’s success isn't just his own — it was built on the support and trust of those who gave him opportunities in his early days, and he’s forever grateful for that. Without them, he wouldn’t be the rancher and farmer he is today.
IT'S ALL HAY FROM HERE
1990
In the 1990s, after years of farming everything from watermelon to asparagus, Tom realized that hay —a crop he’d known since childhood — was where his true passion lay. He dedicated himself to perfecting the art of growing hay, and word spread quickly about the quality of his product. It wasn’t long before folks far and wide knew where to find the best hay around.
THE STORE TAKES ROOT
2000
By 2005, the store that customers have come to love opened its doors, with full operations in place by 2008. The store became more than just a place to buy hay and feed — it became a gathering spot for the community to experience the farm firsthand. Here, folks could get everything they needed for farming, all while connecting with the land and each other.
GROWING TOGETHER
2010
The 2010s were a time of building deeper connections with customers, thanks to the store. The farm hosted many customer appreciation days, bringing the community together to celebrate the hard work and dedication that farming requires. Through it all, Tom continued to perfect his hay-growing methods, ensuring that the farm delivered the best quality hay and service to loyal customers. Like any journey, there were ups and downs, but Tom counted his blessings and kept moving forward.
TRIAL BY FIRE
2019
On December 8, 2019, the farm faced one of its toughest challenges — a fire that caused severe damage, destroying the signature palm trees, mechanic shop, and one of the hay barns, But the damage could have been much worse, and the farm was blessed to come through it as well as it did. Thanks to the incredible support from the community the farm is still standing strong today.
WEATHERING THE STORM
2020
As the new decade began, the world faced the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like everyone, the farm had its doubts about what the future would bring. But through it all, Tom and his team remained committed to producing top-quality hay and serving their customers with the same dedication as always. It wasn’t easy, but they stuck together and kept on going, just like they always have.
FARMER OF THE YEAR
2022
In 2022, Tom was honored to be named Farmer of the Year by the Imperial County Farm Bureau. This recognition is a testament to his contribution to the agriculture industry through innovation, promotion of agricultural education, and his involvement in the community. Tom’s commitment to farming and the community has never wavered, and this award is a reflection of that dedication.
CONTINUING THE LEGACY
PRESENT
Today, Tom’s Hay Farm continues to serve its customers with the utmost quality in hay. The farm's roots run deep, and the team is as committed as ever to providing the best for their customers' livestock. As they look to the future, they’re grateful for the journey that brought them here and excited for the road ahead.
